Ramadan: A Journey of Faith, Fasting, and Reflection (7)
The Art of Dua
Dua (supplication) is the essence of worship. It is our direct line of communication with Allah, a moment of vulnerability, connection, and hope. Mastering the art of dua can transform your Ramadan experience and deepen your relationship with your Creator.
Why Dua is Essential in Ramadan
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Dua is worship.” (Sunan al-Tirmidhi 3372)
Ramadan is the perfect time to embrace dua, as Allah promises to answer our calls, especially when we are fasting. The Quran reminds us:
“And when My servants ask you concerning Me, indeed I am near. I respond to the invocation of the supplicant when he calls upon Me...” (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:186)
3 Steps to Elevate Your Dua
Be Specific and Heartfelt
- Avoid vague requests like “make me better.” Instead, ask for precise blessings: “Grant me patience when facing challenges,” or “Help me overcome my bad habits.” Pour your heart into your words.
Use the Best Times for Dua
- Make dua during moments when it is most likely to be accepted, such as:
- Before breaking your fast.
- In the last third of the night.
- During sujood (prostration) in prayer.
- Make dua during moments when it is most likely to be accepted, such as:
Build a Dua List
- Write down your personal goals, desires, and prayers for yourself, your loved ones, and the wider Ummah. Keep this list handy during Ramadan to stay focused and intentional.
A Reflection to Inspire You
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Your Lord is Generous and Shy. If His servant raises his hands to Him, He becomes shy to return them empty.” (Sunan al-Tirmidhi 3556)
This hadith is a beautiful reminder of Allah’s mercy and generosity. Never hesitate to ask, no matter how big or small your requests are.
