Revelation in Motion (2): The Lord of All Worlds – Belonging Beyond Borders
Surah Al-Fatiha 1:2 – "All praise is due to Allah, Lord of all the worlds."
Before the Quran, the world was fragmented—split into tribes, nations, castes, and classes. People worshipped different gods tied to their soil, sky, or lineage. Religion served as a boundary, not a bridge. Belief was inherited like skin or blood, and gods were confined to specific peoples: the god of this river, that mountain, this race, that kingdom. Worship became a way to divide rather than to unite, to exclude rather than embrace.
Then came a verse—short, radiant, and revolutionary.
"All praise is due to Allah, Lord of all the worlds."
(Surah Al-Fatiha 1:2)
This single line shattered walls. It declared that the Creator is not the god of one tribe, one temple, or one tongue—but the Rabb al-‘Ālamīn, the Lord of all people, all places, all times, all worlds. With these words, the Quran dissolved artificial boundaries and redefined belonging. It introduced a new kind of faith—not inherited by birth or blood, but chosen through truth.
To say "Lord of all worlds" is to say:
– No people are superior to others by origin.
– No land has monopoly over truth.
– No soul is beyond the mercy of God.
In a time of division, the Quran brought unity. In a world of exclusion, it offered belonging.
This transformation wasn't just theological—it was social. The early Muslims came from every walk of life: slaves and leaders, Arabs and non-Arabs, women and men. They sat shoulder to shoulder, not ranked by wealth or race, but by sincerity and devotion. The verse changed how people saw each other: not as rivals in honor, but as fellow travelers under the same divine care.
Even today, when borders harden and identities clash, this verse remains a quiet revolution. It challenges us to rise above nationalism, racism, and sectarian pride. It calls us to see the earth not as divided territory, but as a shared home under one Lord.
"Lord of all worlds" means that no one is invisible to God, and no one is unwanted in His plan.
This is not just belief—it’s a blueprint for a better world.
