Revelation in Motion (28): Life, Death, and the Call to Return
"How can you disbelieve in Allah when you were lifeless and He brought you to life; then He will cause you to die, then bring you back to life, and to Him you will be returned?"
(Al-Baqarah 2:28)
Before the Quran
Before revelation, the cycle of life and death was a mystery wrapped in superstition.
Some thought life began by chance.
Others believed death was the end of everything.
The idea of a second life—a resurrection—was ridiculed by those who could not imagine it.
The powerful thought their legacy was their immortality.
The weak hoped for justice but saw none after the grave.
After the Quran
The Quran anchored life’s journey in a single truth:
We come from nothing—by His will.
We live—by His sustenance.
We die—by His decree.
We rise again—by His power.
And we return—to His judgment.
It placed every stage of existence under God’s control and stripped away the illusion that we own our time or our fate.
Our World Today
Modern science maps the stages of human development, but it still cannot answer the biggest “why.”
We measure lifespans in years, but forget they were written before we took our first breath.
We prepare for retirement, but not for resurrection.
We live as though life is our property, and death an accident.
The Mirror
This verse is a reminder that every heartbeat is a borrowed gift.
That death is not an interruption—it is part of the design.
And that our second life is not a myth—it is our next address.
The question is not whether we will return.
The question is:
When we do, will we be ready to meet the One who sent us here?
